Family Fun Calendar - October 2019
Each month Connecticut Parent Magazine runs an extensive Family Fun Calendar, featuring events throughout Connecticut. All encompassing and comprehensive, it is a section our readers consistently look to and rely on to plan their family activities for the month. Below is just a small sampling of what is currently being showcased. These events mirror our Editor's Picks, and the events that lead off the current edition of the Family Fun Calendar.
October 5 and 6 • Guilford

The 9th Hammonassett Festival returns to the Guilford Fairgrounds to honor the environment and Native American culture on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6. Beginning daily with a Native American prayer and smudging ceremony, the weekend includes music, Native American dancers, vendors, exhibits, wildlife shows, an expanded children’s area, food and much more.
Visit the festival from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults; and free for children under 12. The Guilford Fairgrounds is located at 111 Lovers Lane. For more information, visit www.hammonasset.org.
New England Chowdafest
Sunday, October 6 •
Come to Westport and experience a treat for your tummy when you visit the New England Chowdafest on Sunday, October 6 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Sherwood Island State Park. You’re the judge when you dig into an unlimited sampling from 40 award-winning restaurants. Your vote determines New England’s best chowder and your participation will help fund over a half million meals for the hungry. But this is more than just soup. Experience freshly baked breads and sauces in the Italian “Ciao”dafest, sample chips and salsas in the ChowdaMex and more. Kids can vote, too and also enjoy activities just for them.

Danbury Pet Expo
Sunday, October 13 •
Give your four-legged-friends a treat and come to the Danbury Pet Expo on Sunday, October 13 at the Danbury Town Park. This informative, entertaining and fun day gives pet owners an opportunity to learn about the care of their best friends. Visit the exhibitors, including a variety of animal experts, and learn about pet grooming, behavior and training. Looking to bring someone new to love into your life? Stop by the pet adoptions.

Apple Harvest & Music Festival
October 18, 19 and 20 •
Get ready for a feast for your eyes, ears and taste buds when you come to the Glastonbury Apple Harvest & Music Festival on Friday, October 18, Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 at Riverfront Park. There will be two stages filled with live music to tap your toes to. Also, a full midway of rides, more than 100 craft vendors, food trucks and much much more.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: CHS Gets Creepy
Saturday, October 19 •
History gets spooky when you go on the Behind-the Scenes Tour: CHS Gets Creepy at the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford on Saturday, October 19. Listen to tales of vampires, corpses on ice and death portraits that haunt the vaults. Visit the storage and collection areas not normally open ot the public, and learn how the CHS preserves the stories of Connecticut with a focus on the creepiest tales and objects.
